Wildlands is a playground carved in the image of an open world Ubisoft game where you are encouraged to approach every situation differently. Go where you want; be it bike, car, or chopper. Kill who you want; grunts, lieutenants, and kingpins. Each is a peg in the Santa Blanca cartel you are tasked with taking down. The gameplay cycle suffers from open world repetition; travel to the destination, gather intel with the drone, take out the objectives. However I was drawn to keep playing because it felt fun. The gunplay is great and varied, the customization is always welcome, and the countryside is beautiful. Play with others as the emergent gameplay and stories that will come from shared antics outshine the bland narrative and overpowered AI companions. Time to climb cocaine mountain.
